If you could go back to work in a completely new job for 2024, what would it be?
I am. I’ve signed on to be an assistant coach with the Seattle Seawolves in Major League Rugby in the US. I’m keen to keep involved in rugby and this is an exciting frontier for the game.

Your most vivid Christmas memory?
On the beach at Woodgate with my wife when our kids were young. They were fun, carefree times as a family with a bit of waterskiing in the creek.

Someone to watch in 2024?
Harry McLaughlin-Phillips. He’s still a teenager but the Reds have a unicorn there. He’s a rare talent with the temperament to go with all the skills to be a phenomenal flyhalf for Queensland rugby.
Do you have any Christmas/New Year traditions that are funny or unusual?
None at all
Hot Christmas lunch or cold?
Hot Christmas roast but beef rather than turkey. I’m partial to a trifle.

Crystal ball: Your big prediction for 2024?
I’d like to think we’ll be enjoying the resurgence of Queensland and Australian rugby all in one year. “Shocked” would be my one word to describe the Eddie Jones era.
Any questions of your own? Who would you like to ask something?
I’d like to ask the World Health Organisation whether or not COVID was as big an issue as it was made out to be and how, in hindsight, would we tackle the onset differently.

Should we expect El Nino or La Nina next year?
La Nina with colder, wetter conditions.

Do you have a New Year’s resolution?
The plan is to get the fitness levels back up. I always ran 10-15km on New Year’s Day. It’ll be an easy 5km to start 2024.
Anybody you don’t wish to bump into in 2024?
No
