What was the highlight of 2023 for you?
In September, I had the chance to go on a road trip through the Scottish Highlands with an old friend. We spent eight amazing days in a campervan, exploring some of the most stunning places I’ve ever seen. Along the way, we also dove into Scotland’s rich culture by visiting a bunch of whisky distilleries. It was a mix of breathtaking scenery and really getting to know the heart of Scottish traditions. The whole experience was just unforgettable.

If you could have done something differently last year, what would it be and why?
If there’s one thing I would have done differently in 2023, it would be dedicating more time to personal development and self-care. Reflecting on the past months, I realize that while I’ve achieved a lot professionally and had some amazing experiences, I often put my own well-being and personal growth on the back burner. Balancing the demands of work with the need for self-care is crucial, and I’ve learned that taking time to focus on personal interests, health, and learning new skills not only enhances overall well-being but also enriches my professional life and relationships. Moving forward, I aim to strike a healthier balance between work and personal life.

Who is someone to watch for in 2024?
Hollee and Dara, the dynamic duo at the helm of QUIVR in Fortitude Valley, have truly established themselves as a powerhouse of creativity in Brisbane. Observing their evolution and growth over the last three years has been an absolute delight. Their innovative approach and relentless drive have not only set new standards in the industry but have also inspired many. As we approach 2024, the anticipation for what they have in store is palpable. Their track record suggests that whatever they’re planning, it’s bound to be groundbreaking and exciting. I eagerly look forward to witnessing their next chapter of ingenuity and success.

What is your most vivid memory of the festive holidays?
Christmas for me is all about those hot, steamy days chilling on my grandparents’ balcony up in Cairns, where I grew up. It was always a big deal with our extended family coming together from everywhere. The place was buzzing with excitement, heaps of gifts getting passed around, loads of delicious seafood to dig into, and of course, everyone jumping into the pool for a cool down. Those were the days – relaxed, fun, and full of family vibes.

Do you have any unique or funny holiday traditions?
In my family, my dad is the chief orchestrator of our Christmas celebrations. He didn’t have the chance to celebrate Christmas during his own childhood, which I believe fuels his passion for making it extra special now. He plans every hour of Christmas Day with incredible precision, ensuring a mix of both tradition and fresh fun. While the activities vary each year, certain traditions are non-negotiable. For instance, our Christmas morning always starts with watching “Love Actually,” setting a joyful and festive tone for the day. And no matter what else is on the menu, a classic turkey always holds the place of honour at our Christmas lunch table. His dedication to creating these memorable moments really makes the holiday for us.

What’s your New Year’s resolution for 2024?
For 2024, I have three key New Year’s resolutions. Firstly, I’m aiming to travel more and learn from each experience, really immersing myself in different cultures. Secondly, I’m focusing on a healthy mind and body, with regular exercise and mindfulness practices. Lastly, I want to invest more in my friendships, nurturing these valuable relationships and making sure to spend quality time together. These resolutions are all about personal growth, wellbeing, and cherishing the connections that matter most.

If you could have anyone from any time period attend your Christmas lunch, who
would you choose?
My Grandad ‘Bill Bryan’. Christmas for me is only about one thing and that’s family. No matter who I have the option of choosing my memories of Christmas at my Grandad’s house are some of the fondest memories of my life and a chance to recreate those would be very special!

Coastal holiday or city holiday?
I prefer city holidays for their vibrant hustle and bustle and the rich cultural diversity they offer. The energy of busy streets, diverse people, and the blend of languages and traditions is exhilarating. Cities provide a unique blend of cultural experiences, from museums and live performances to a myriad of culinary delights representing cuisines from around the world. Plus, the shopping and nightlife in cities are unmatched, with everything from high-end boutiques to lively clubs. In short, city holidays are a sensory-rich experience, offering a mix of discovery, cultural immersion, and dynamic energy.

What are you looking forward to in 2024?
In 2024, I’m most excited about personal and professional growth. I’m looking forward to learning new things and traveling to places rich in history and culture. Health and fitness are also a priority for me, as I plan to enhance my fitness routine. Strengthening my relationships with family and friends is another key focus. Additionally, I’m eager to see the latest technological advancements, especially in AI and renewable energy. Professionally, I’m ready for new challenges and career milestones. And finally, I plan to spend more time on creative pursuits like writing or painting. Overall, 2024 for me is about growth, exploration, and embracing new experiences.

Do you have a summer book or podcast you can recommend?
I’m not much of a physical book guy but I’ve got three audiobooks downloaded and ready to go for the next few months.
