Question Time – Dan Anstey, Triple M Breakfast host

Triple M Brisbane’s Breakfast with Marto and Margaux co-host Dan Anstey steps up to answer InQueensland Summer Reading’s 10 Questions.

Did anything good come out of 2022?

Absolutely, good comes out of every year.  Bad also comes out of every year.  Some are more good than bad, others more bad than good.  For instance I think we can agree 2020 was an absolute disaster, and 2022 wasn’t 2020.  So that’s good.  In fact the further away we can get from that complete sh*tshow the better, so 2023 will be another level up.  Bring it on.

What’s your favourite summer memory?

I spent a lot of time at Rainbow Beach in my formative years.  Wonderful place full of wonderful people.  Although some not so wonderful hangovers; exacerbated by a 4:30am sunrise blazing directly onto my near lifeless body curled up on the floor of a fibro beach shack with no air-conditioning.  Wonderful memories.

Are you a summer or a winter person?

Predominantly summer, although just as I’m getting over the heat the respite of autumn is upon us.  And then just when the cold is losing its charm spring dawns.  It’s a good system I must say.

How do you stay resilient during periods of change, like the year just gone?

By distracting myself with family and work.  I have a rather hyperactive mind that needs to be constantly beaten into submission with relentless tasks.  I found myself working seven days a week for the majority of 2022, which might have been a bit much for my long-suffering wife at times, although the upside was she had me out of the house and not pestering her.

Who were your heroes of 2022?

The aforementioned long-suffering wife.  Working seven days a week with a persistent 4am alarm clock is difficult but pales in comparison to looking after two children under three every morning.  She is a constant source of inspiration for me, and the beating heart of our family.  It’ll all be worth it one day, I hope…

What’s your secret ambition?

To beat Elon Musk to Mars.

What’s your favourite holiday spot?

I hear Mars is nice this time of year.  Failing that, Rainbow Beach (in a futile attempt to recapture my misspent youth).  Not a lot of time for holidays recently sadly, too many needy young children.

What are you hoping for in 2023?

More of the same really, 2022 has been good to us and I’m very grateful for that.  Watching my children get a little older and a little wiser.  Hopefully me too.  Me too get wiser, that is.  I’ll definitely get older.  Perhaps I should be hoping for botox…

What have you been watching on television/streaming services lately?

Dahmer.  It’s rare to see something that well done out of the blue.

Any people or businesses to watch in 2023?

I’ve invested heavily in FTX and have a really good feeling about it.
