Queensland MPs had their salaries frozen during the pandemic, just like public servants, but the big thaw may be coming.
A surge in voter registrations has prompted the Remuneration Tribunal to give MPs more money to look after them.
The Remuneration Tribunal has ruled Queensland cross benchers are entitled to more resources – the equivalent of half a staff member each.
After giving MPs access to more money, the Remuneration Tribunal has now cautioned that they don’t have to spend it all at once.
