Streamlined gateway between business and local government

For years, Local Buy has been the gateway which connects local government to local business.

Local Government in Queensland supports local suppliers by spending over $900 million a year through Local Buy Arrangements, which offer many benefits and more opportunities for local suppliers, councils, and a range of buyers.

Starting on August 1, their transition to Active Arrangements will continue to fundamentally change the way that local government connects to local suppliers.

As a result of a significant investment by Local Buy, they are now able to open their LGA Arrangements every three months as opposed to every 3 years, giving suppliers access to more opportunities – more often.

These changes will ensure increased work opportunities for suppliers, who will benefit from a streamlined and simplified tender process with better visibility of categories. As an added benefit, small businesses, not for profits and indigenous corporations which meet certain requirements can now apply for fee-free verification, which means every business gets a fair go.

Through Local Buy Arrangements, suppliers become visible to the thousands of buyers from local government, government owned corporations, not for profits, statutory bodies, and universities, who use Local Buys Arrangements to streamline their procurement process.

Buyers will benefit also, with increased compliance rigour and easy to navigate Arrangements so they can find what they are looking for. The increased tender opportunities means more suppliers that are local to them.

“Local Buy’s Arrangements are going Active in a way that is a first for Queensland and Local Government across Australia,” said Local Buy’s Chief Executive Peter Mifsud.

“This is the result of a significant investment by Local Buy to ensure this is done in a legislatively compliant and sustainable manner and achieves the critical objective of ensuring local suppliers have more access to opportunities.”
