Queensland Theatre is the first major Queensland arts company to do this at this scale, and in this post-Covid environment, one of the few theatre companies in the country to be offering high-end, on demand performances direct from its main stage program to audiences this year.

This week, the team from Australian Theatre Live will be taping Queensland Theatre’s hit production of Taming of the Shrew with a live audience, and this will be available for theatre fans across the state and around the country to stream online from 14–20 June.

With the biggest set ever designed for the Bille Brown Theatre, plus a huge cast of 12 actors, Taming of the Shrew will require 10 cameras to capture all the action.

ATL will place viewers right in the heart of the theatre bank to make it absolutely the next best thing to being here.

As with its in-theatre seasons, the digital productions will include audio-described and Auslan-interpreted versions, and regional schools will also be able to access a brilliant schools kit packed with additional resources for the classroom.

It’s ambitious, but Queensland Theatre is hoping this new venture is one of those Covid silver linings, and it is excited to be sharing Queensland Theatre productions with theatre fans far and wide for the very first time.
