Join Rachel Sciascia, a nationally recognised intellectual property lawyer, for a stimulating discussion on the crucial types of intellectual property and how to maximise their value.

This free event will be hosted by Brisbane Business Hub, an initiative created to help businesses recover from the economic impact of COVID-19 by delivering access to resources and workshops.

Gadens Chairman Paul Spiro said that their involvement aligns with the firm’s passion and commitment to support community-based projects significant to Brisbane.

“The Economic Recovery Taskforce Plan announced by the City of Brisbane presented a perfect opportunity for Gadens to support and align our values to help in any way possible, especially during this tumultuous period,” Spiro said.

“The launch of Brisbane Business Hub was a natural and automatic enabler for Gadens to provide the expertise, knowledge and networks of our extended internal and external family to help deliver something very special for the City and its local business community,” he said.

The seminar will provide essential intellectual property advice which safeguards the sustainability of your business in an ever-changing business landscape.

“The premise of the seminar is that with wide scale innovation, technology adoption and changing business models there is an increasing focus on intellectual property,” said Sciascia.

“Intellectual property is driving the value of products and becoming a significant portion of a business’ value.

“To realise investments in innovation and branding, appropriate intellectual property protection strategies should be adopted and followed.

“There are many areas which businesses fail to address resulting in costly rectification processes, being subject to third party claims, losing competitive advantages, reducing the business’ value or being subject to action from regulators,” she said.

Sciascia has over 13 years’ experience in intellectual property, corporate and commercial law and has advised clients including established businesses, start-ups, universities, government, research organisations, not-for-profit organisations to large multi-national corporations.

Sciascia specialises in advising on complex corporate structures, negotiating the legal and governance arrangements for collaborative research ventures, the commercialisation of innovations, research and development, intellectual property licensing, and transfers.

The seminar is targeted at anyone whose role is to manage a businesses intellectual property: a founder, CEO, CFO, COO, in-house counsel, business development manager, intellectual property manager and the like.

Attendees will learn from Sciascia’s years of experience in IP across a range of businesses to avoid pitfalls, identify and rectify mistakes early, and limit the cost and impact on the business.
