Little Dry Friday kicks the can for rural communities in need

The small but mighty cousin of Big Dry Friday, the regional fundraiser, which amassed $1.3 million in donations last year, returns to support rural farmers and their families doing it tough.

Little Dry Friday aims to create awareness for struggling farmers in regional and rural Australia where they continue to suffer financial hardship.

Morgans’ Executive Chairman Brian Sheahan said the fundraiser is a day to connect with regional Australia as well as an opportunity to band together and offer support.

“The idea is to create the day of connection to think about the issues suffered by regional Australia,” he said.

“The whole concept of Little Dry Friday is that people take what they usually spend on a burger and a coke or a meal at a restaurant and give that towards looking after their country,” he said.

Farmers will receive $500 pre-paid Visa gift cards to ease the financial burden wrought by weather and natural disasters.

“The benefit is that the money raised is circulated throughout communities that need it. Whether it be spent on a haircut or a pair of shoes, it all rotates around,” Sheahan said.

100 per cent of the proceeds will be donated to Rural Aid, one of Australia’s largest rural charities.

The Morgans Foundation is matching dollar-for-dollar all funds raised, capped at $250,000.

Little Dry Friday kicks off today and will be the third iteration of the event as last year’s fundraising efforts reached $1.3 million with 2400 farmers and their families receiving $500 gift cards.

Donations small and large are encouraged as every little bit helps.
