Children from Years 3 to 6 will be eligible to apply for our new Foundation Program in Levels 9 – 7, a part-time after-school offering delivered at the Academy’s home in Kelvin Grove. Students of all experience levels are welcome to participate in a Pre-selection Experience later in 2020 for the Foundation Program’s inaugural intake.

For secondary school students, Queensland Ballet’s Academy Program, offering full-time elite ballet training alongside an academic pathway delivered in partnership with Kelvin Grove State College, will soon be available for students from Years 7 – 12 (currently only open for Years 10 upwards). Our Guest Academy Program will also be available to dancers residing outside the Brisbane Metropolitan area, for students in Years 7 – 9 (Levels 6 – 4). This option provides participants with four extended visits to Queensland Ballet Academy per year, timed across each school term.

Queensland Ballet will continue to deliver its highly successful Pre-Professional Program to dancers looking for professional training, post-school. This 11-month program is delivered alongside Company activities in Queensland Ballet’s West End studios.

Auditions for the Academy Program and Pre-Professional Program will take place via video submission later in 2020, for the 2021 intake. Students can register their interest in auditioning by visiting www.queenslandballet.com.au/auditions. Further information about this process will be provided soon.

Regarding this new suite of programs, Academy Director, Christian Tátchev said,

“We are incredibly proud of how much our Academy has achieved in recent years, the expansion of all our programs is a natural progression. We look forward to welcoming younger students who are passionate about our wonderful art form to the Queensland Ballet family and nurturing them throughout their journey to becoming professional artists.”

Queensland Ballet Academy is fortunate to have the exceptional Academy facilities provided by the Department of Education, enabling the cultivation of talent here in Queensland. This provides the Academy with the opportunity to nurture young dancers at an early age.

This expanded program offering enables the Academy to maximise the use of its wonderful facilities, particularly with students already attending Kelvin Grove State College.

Queensland Ballet Academy is Queensland’s premier ballet training organisation. The Academy produces young dancers whose talents and abilities are in demand throughout Australia and the world.
