Two men charged over 1970s child sex offences in north Qld

Police have charged two men over historic child sex offences allegedly involving a girl they knew in north Queensland half a century ago.

The men were charged with offences alleged to have occurred in the 1970s in north Queensland.

Police say the offences were committed against a girl known to the men in Julia Creek, Boulia and Townsville between 1970 and 1978.

An 82-year-old man has been charged with nine child sex offences, including six counts of indecent treatment of a girl under 16.

A 74-year-old man has been charged with one count of indecent treatment of a girl under 17.

Both men are from north Queensland and will appear in the Julia Creek Magistrates Court on July 11.

Investigations remain ongoing and police believe there may be more potential victims. They are appealing for anyone with knowledge of the matters between the 1960s and 1970s to come forward.
