Police will allege the pair approached a ute in Dalby, west of Brisbane, about 8:30am on Thursday and struggled with the driver and a passenger.

The driver was allegedly shot and taken to hospital in a serious but stable condition.

The groups are not believed to know one another.

The men drove off in the ute and officers tracked it along the Warrego Highway before successfully using tyre spikes near Charlton.

Police will allege the ute continued for some distance before colliding with a motorbike in South Toowoomba.

The rider was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Officers took the men into custody about 90 minutes after the alleged carjacking in Dalby.

A 31-year-old Dalby man has been charged with one count each of attempted murder, armed robbery, unlawful possession of weapons and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

A 34-year-old Toowoomba man faces the same charges as well as dangerous operation of a vehicle and possessing utensils.

Both are due in the Dalby Magistrates Court on Friday.
