An air and sea search was launched after an emergency beacon was activated about 8.10pm at Creal Reef, about 150km east of Mackay in the Coral Sea.

The overturned vessel was located just after midnight before one of the missing fishermen was found clinging to the hull about 7am.

A second man remains missing as the search involving Volunteer Marine Rescue Mackay and rescue helicopters continues.
