Darryl Valroy Young, 59, is charged with three counts of murder and another count of attempted murder after the shooting during a bitter fenceline dispute near Bogie, northwest of Mackay, in August.

Young appeared by video link as the charges were mentioned in Bowen Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

Mervyn and Maree Schwarz, aged 71 and 59, and Ms Schwarz’s son Graham Tighe, 35, were shot and killed.

Ross Tighe was shot in the stomach but survived, escaping to a neighbouring property to raise the alarm.

Young – a long-term resident of the area – will remain in custody for further video link mention on February 7.
