Brisbane City Council has lodged a development application for the restaurant and a smaller cafe that will sit at the bridge’s city-side landing on the corner of Edward and Alice streets.

The restaurant, sitting over the river about 50 metres from its bank and taking up 300 square metres, is planned to offer both formal and casual dining. Customers will enter the restaurant via stairs or a lift from the main bridge deck.

“The City Landing Café will provide casual, café style service to the public, offering both indoor and outdoor seating, and providing green roof elements to complement the landscaping of the surrounding plaza area,” according tom planning documents produced by the council’s City Projects Office.

The $190 million Kangaroo Point bridge, currently under construction, will span 460 metres across the river and link the City Botanic Gardens with Scott St on the other side.

The council hopes the structure, due to open in 2024, will become a must-visit destination for residents and visitors as well as a major active transport link for the city.

When completed, the restaurant will offer unique views of the CBD and Story Bridge, a big lure for the estimated 6100 people expected to travel across rthe bridge every day.

Meanwhile, the Palaszczuk Government is looking for suggested names for another yet-to-be built pedestrian bridge, a massive 480 metre span included as part of the $5.4 billion Cross River Rail project.

The Boggo Road precinct bridge will link the project’s underground station. at Park Road with the emerging ecosciences sector surrounding Princess Alexandra Hospital.

Transport Minister Mark Bailey said submissions on naming the bridge will be open for a month before a government-appointed panel makes a final recommendation.

“This new bridge will become an iconic part of the local landscape, making it safer, quicker and easier for local workers, residents and students to walk or ride their bike,” he said.

“It is only fitting that the community is invited to contribute ideas to name the bridge, which will be a standout piece of infrastructure that crosses over the rail lines to connect communities.
