Thor Morgan was driving on Ruthven Street in Harlaxton, Toowoomba, just before 3am on March 15 when a shot was fired from a stolen dual-cab ute.

Morgan was found a short time later at a Coonan Street address with a gunshot wound to his head.

He was transferred to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane in critical condition, where he died two months later.

A 24-year-old Cambooya man was arrested and charged with murder on Monday.

The arrest comes after police divers recovered a firearm from Condamine River in July, which police will allege was the weapon used in the incident.

The Cambooya man also faces charges of arson, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and unlawful possession of weapons and is expected to face Brisbane Magistrates Court on Monday.

Police do not believe the alleged shooter acted alone and have not ruled out further charges.

“We believe there was at least one other person in that motor vehicle with the 24-year-old man who has been charged with murder today,” Detective Inspector Heath McQueen told reporters.

“That person has assisted that offender with destroying evidence and attempting to cover up his offence.”

Police are urging anyone with information to contact detectives.

“Now’s the time to take the opportunity to come forward, sit down with detectives, provide local detectives with your version of events in relation to what occurred,” Det Insp McQueen said.
