Downs man charged with Krishna Chopra murder

A 33-year-old man has been charged with murder over the death of 61-year-old Krishna Chopra in the Queensland town of Crows Nest in January this year.

Pratten man Simon Joes was arrested at Warwick and faced the Toowoomba Magistrates Court later on Friday. His lawyers did not ask for bail.

Ms Chopra’s body was discovered at her house at Crows Nest, north of Toowoomba, on January 31.

Police have not revealed the cause of death, but a metal bar was found last month near Ms Chopra’s home.

Ms Chopra was last seen alive on CCTV footage captured at a Bunnings hardware store on Ruthven Street in Toowoomba on January 20.

The footage shows Ms Chopra dressed in a white tunic-style shirt, black pants, a patterned purple and white scarf, sunglasses and a black face mask.

Detectives continue to appeal for anyone with information or who had contact with Ms Chopra to come forward.

Anyone in the Park Road area of Crows Nest on January 20, 21 and 22 should also contact detectives.
