Wild Gold Coast surf claims life of boogie boarder
The body of a boogie boarder has been found in the surf generated by ex-tropical cyclone Seth at a Gold Coast beach.
The man, believed to be aged in his 60s, was pulled from the water at Greenmount beach just after 9am on Wednesday.
The man was knocked unconscious when he hit a sandbank and his body was recovered by council lifeguards, according to the Queensland Ambulance Service.
“Queensland ambulance officers attempted resuscitation, but tragically the man has died,” Gold Coast Senior Operations Supervisor Adam Flor said.
The tragedy comes after as massive swells from ex-tropical cyclone Seth batter the Queensland coastline.
The system, located off the Gold Coast, prompted a hazardous surf warning from Fraser Island to the Gold Coast.
Conditions had eased slightly on Wednesday.
The Bureau of Meteorology says although the system has weakened, a strong wind warning remains in place for coastal areas in Queensland and northern NSW.
The system is expected to bring rain in the coming days but not significant amounts.
