Detectives say a 35-year-old man died after the single rifle shot following a disturbance at a home on West Bischoff Rd, Watsonville, about 3.50pm on Tuesday.

Police believe a number of others were at the property at the time, and it’s understood the two men are known to each other.

It was unclear whether anyone witnessed the alleged shooting, and forensic officers were still at the crime scene, Detective Anthony Law said on Wednesday.

A 32-year-old man was arrested at the scene and charged with murder.

“It was from all accounts a straightforward arrest with no resistance from the (alleged) offender,” Det Law told reporters.

He was denied police bail and remanded in custody, and is due to appear in Mareeba Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
