Rocky horror: Two passengers killed as truck crashes into ambulance

Two people have died in central Queensland after a truck struck a stationary ambulance.

Police said the ambulance – which was at a road-work temporary traffic light on the Capricornia Highway at Stanwell about midday on Monday – was hit in the rear by a truck, pushed off the road and then rolled.

Two passengers in the back of the ambulance died at the scene while the vehicle’s driver and two additional passengers were hospitalised in a stable condition.

Two of the ambulance’s passengers, aged 87 and 65, died at the scene.

The 41-year-old truck driver was taken to Rockhampton Hospital in a serious condition.

Two other occupants of the ambulance were taken to hospital in a stable condition.

Forensic officers are investigating the crash.
