Police pulled over a car at Minyama on the Sunshine Coast on Thursday night and drug tested the driver, who returned a positive result.

Not long afterwards the officer realised there was a warrant out for the arrest of the driver’s passenger.

When the wanted man was told he’d be arrested he fled on foot. The officer managed to get him on the ground but the man pulled out a home-made shock device and used it on the senior constable.

The officer managed to subdue the man with his police-issue Taser.

The passenger is facing drug and weapons charges, including possession of a knife, and with assaulting and obstructing police. He is due to face the Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Friday.

The officer wasn’t seriously hurt.
