Virgin adds 13,000 seats, scales up Easter services to Qld tourism hotspots

Virgin Australia will start direct services between Adelaide and the Sunshine Coast and expand services to  Cairns, Hamilton Island, Whitsunday Coast (Proserpine), Sunshine Coast and the Gold Coast in time for Easter.

The new direct services will add more than 13,000 seats across 37 return flights to the airline’s network.

Virgin Australia Group chief executive Jayne Hrdlicka said the tourism industry depends on everyone travelling.

“We have all worked hard to get to a place where we can enjoy these travel opportunities once again, with the added benefit of supporting vital jobs in our tourism destinations,” she said.

The Adelaide to Sunshine Coast routes will have four return services a week from March 30 to April 25. Melbourne to Ballina/Byron Bay will have up to six return services a week from March 29 to April 25.

The Brisbane to Cairns route will have up to 33 return services per week by April 11. Sydney to Cairns will have up to 14 return services a week by April 11 and Melbourne to Cairns will have up to 10 return services a week by April 4)

The Brisbane to Hamilton Island route will have up to 12 return services a week by April 4 and Brisbane to Whitsunday Coast (Proserpine) will have up to nine return services a week by April 4.

Sydney to the Sunshine Coast will have up to 14 return services a week by April 4 and Melbourne to the Sunshine Coast will have up to 18 return services a week by April 4.

Sydney to the Gold Coast will have up to 55 return services a week by April 11 and the Melbourne to Gold Coast route will have 38 return services by April 4.

Adelaide to the Gold Coast will have up to 10 return services a week by April 4 and Canberra to the Gold Coast will have up to nine return services a week by April 4.

Brisbane to Launceston services will run up to four times a week by April 4 and Hobart will have up to 10 return services a week.
