Accused murderer Zlatko Sikorsky has died in hospital after being assaulted in a Brisbane jail.

Police said the 37-year-old had an altercation with another prisoner in the Wolston Correctional Centre on Tuesday, November 10.

Sikorsky was taken to the Princess Alexandra Hospital with head injuries and died this morning.

The Queensland Police Service’s Correctional Services Investigation Unit is investigating.

“Our condolences go out to the man’s family and friends,” a spokesperson for the service said in a statement.

Sikorsky was due to face trial in the Supreme Court for the murder of 16-year-old Larissa Beilby.

He was accused of killing the teen at a property at Buccan, in Logan south of Brisbane in June 2018.

He then allegedly stuffed her body inside a barrel on the back of a ute, which was later found abandoned at Stapylton on the Gold Coast.

During a two-day committal hearing last November, a friend of Ms Beilby told the court they had socialised and taken drugs with Sikorsky in the weeks before her death.
