In one instance, the 36-year-old detained two teenage boys while identifying himself as a member of the police dog squad, prosecutors are expected to tell a court on Monday.

A string of allegations stretching back to 2017 and occurring in Brisbane and at Gympie led to the man being charged at the weekend.

Police searched his home and allegedly found handcuffs, weapons including replica firearms and gel blasters, military-styled clothing and police service patches.

A number of endangered animals, including rare turtles, were also seized.

Detective Sergeant Robert Lowry said police had obtained footage of the alleged incidents from body-worn cameras and urged other potential victims to come forward.

Some of the footage showed the man using a “very aggressive and intimidating” dog to threaten people, he told reporters.

“They’re very traumatised; some of them have been reduced to tears, trembling or shaking,” Lowry said.

“It’s an immense fear.”

Police also allege the man, who worked in the security industry, posed as a returned serviceman.

The Jones Hill man has been charged with impersonating police and falsely claiming to be a returned soldier, along with 15 counts of deprivation of liberty and common assault.

Lowry said there appeared to be other people present in some of the footage and police would examine whether the accused had accomplices.
