Officers were called to a home on Kelliher Street in Rothwell where the woman was found shot about 8am on Thursday.

A car linked to the incident was later discovered in a residential area at Bellara on Bribie Island, approximately a 40km drive away.

Police have locked down four blocks bounded by Bibimulya St, Sylvan Beach Esplanade, Elkhorn Avenue and Eucalyptus St.

“Specialist police are on scene and members of the community are asked to avoid the area as they respond,” officers said in a statement.
