Seven men charged over weekend shootout at Cairns caravan park

Seven men have been charged over a shoot-out at a caravan park in far north Queensland over the weekend.

Police allege a group of six men, including one armed with a rifle, turned up at a caravan park in Bramston Beach, Cairns, in the early hours of Saturday.

A gunfight broke out between the group and a 59-year-old park resident and a 27-year-old man was struck with a bullet which fractured his lower leg.

Officers were alerted to the skirmish after the injured man presented to Innisfail Hospital at about 5.30am.

He is still assisting police with their ongoing investigation.

Meanwhile, five of the men, aged between 25 and 52, are set to appear in Innisfail Magistrates Court on October 19 over the incident.

A 25-year-old Goondi man will face the same court later on Monday.

A 59-year-old Bramston Beach man is due in Townsville Magistrates Court on Monday, charged with grievous bodily harm and other offences.

The men are all acquainted and have previous history, police said.
