Part of a park in Brisbane’s east will be dedicated to Hannah Clarke and her three children, creating a “forever” memorial for the community for “remembrance and reflection” of the murdered family.

Clarke, 31, her two daughters Aaliyah, 6, and Laianah, 4, and her 3-year-old son Trey, were murdered in February by Ms Clarke’s estranged husband.

On Tuesday afternoon, Brisbane City Council voted unanimously to formally rename an area of the Bill Hewitt Reserve in Camp Hill to “Hannah’s Place”.

More than 1000 people gathered in the same reserve earlier this year to celebrate and mourn the family at a public memorial.

Councillor Fiona Cunningham, who represents the Coorparoo ward where the park is located, said it would be a “special place” for the community.

“This section of park on the corner of Samuel and Jade streets will now forever be a place of remembrance and reflection,” she said.

Cunningham said she had been working with the Clarke family to find a way to pay tribute to their lives.

“Hannah attended Whites Hill State college and has family connections to the area and it’s a special place I think to recognise her,” she said.

“We hope to really continue to build awareness of domestic violence issues in our community.”

‘Honoured to be in her presence’

The reserve was initially named in honour of the late Bill Hewitt in 2016, who was a Queensland MP for almost two decades.

On social media, family members of Hewitt said he would have been proud to share the name of the area with Clarke.

“I think it is so great to be dedicating a section of the park to Hannah,” his grandson Michael Brown said.

“Grandad would have been very honoured to be in her presence.”

Hewitt’s daughter Wendy Broxham echoed the comments.

“A great initiative and he would indeed be very proud that this happened in the park named after him,” she said.

Hannah’s mother Suzanne Clarke also responded on social media, thanking Cunningham for the dedication.
