A Mount Gravatt man remains in hospital after being shot in the abdomen after allegedly stabbing an officer in the face in Brisbane’s south overnight.

Police said the 25-year-old man had undergone surgery.

The male senior constable, who was allegedly slashed across the face, has serious injuries and is being treated in the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.

This morning, police said the officer’s injuries were non-life-threatening and he was recovering in hospital.

Hillgrove Street, in Mount Gravatt, has been cordoned off and the forensic team examined evidence overnight, which was strewn across the road.

Police said the male and female officers went to the home about 5:00pm yesterday to deliver paperwork.

When they arrived, they were confronted by the man allegedly wielding a knife.

While still standing outside, the male officer was allegedly slashed on the face, before his partner shot the suspect at least three times.

About a dozen police quickly descended on the street.

Detective Superintendent Tony Fleming said he understood the man was shot at least three times.

“It is very sad and unfortunate, two people have been wounded and in serious conditions,” he said.

“They [officers] did their best to retreat — we are lucky it was not worse than it is.

“Two police from an inquiry office turning up at a house [to deliver documents] is an every-day event.

“What followed is not an everyday event.”
