The review followed a recruitment process last year for the ranks of chief superintendent, superintendent and inspector, according to a Queensland Police spokesperson.

The positions were reportedly recruited using an external company, with up to 150 police officers understood to have applied for 36 positions.

“The review was focused on process-related issues rather than the merit of applicants,” the spokesperson said on Wednesday.

The review commissioner recommended the appointments of the 36 officers be lapsed.

“The Commissioner … is seeking urgent advice to have this situation resolved as soon as possible,” the spokesperson said.

Some applicants were understood to have been unhappy about the recruitment process, The Courier-Mail has reported.
