The 30-year-old man appeared via video-link in the Bundaberg Magistrates Court charged with 39 offences including torture, rape, deprivation of liberty and unlawful possession of a firearm.

It’s alleged the women were known to the man.

Police will allege the man punched one of the women and kicked her in the stomach, and on another occasion held her hostage, while threatening her with a pistol.

They will also allege he hit the second woman in the face with a pistol on multiple occasions, punched her and held her against her will.

Police said the violence against the women had escalated in recent weeks.

He was arrested near a shopping centre, following an earlier failed attempt to locate him.

Dozens of officers wearing protective equipment surrounded a home in Avoca and closed off surrounding streets for several hours in an effort to bring him into custody.

The 30-year-old did not apply for bail and will face court again in September.
