Guests rocked the pink carpet in colourful attire and in came in high spirits to celebrate the rare occasion of a brand-new Australian musical.

The quirky and heart felt production by Kate Miller-Heidke and Keir Nuttall and directed by Simon Phillips (the same creative team as Muriel’s Wedding The Musical) received a full house standing ovation at the top of the curtain call under a glittering shower of gold confetti.

The opening night post show function saw QPAC’s Cascade lit in pink hues, with theming including banana tabletop arrangements.

Passionate speeches were delivered by Minister Grace Grace, Councillor Vicki Howard, QPAC Chief Executive John Kotzas, Artistic Director Brisbane Festival, Louise Bezzina, Director, Simon Phillips, and Kate Miller-Heidke and Keir Nuttall.

There was recognition for the collaboration between Brisbane Festival and QPAC to commission this new-Australian musical and of course much praise for the incredible creative team and super talented cast.

The show has garnered rave audience and critical acclaim – many giving it a five Bananana rating!

BANANALAND runs in QPAC’s Playhouse until 1 October. Tickets qpac.com.au or phone 136-246.
