Did anything good come out of 2020?

The US election results! I don’t imagine the Trump chaos machine will disappear quickly but at least the world is not facing another four years of him as President!!!

The first female American Vice-President in Kamala Harris. Parasite winning Best Picture at the Oscars. Methane on Mars.  Bluey’s Big Play – thank you Rose Myers and your team for giving my nephew his first theatre experience … he loved it! The Caramilk relaunch.  Trent Dalton’s second book, All Our Shimmering Skies (of course we are staging Boy Swallows Universe in September which will be incredible).

What’s your favourite summer memory?

Snorkelling on bright blue-sky days, or Sunday prawns and beer. Both able to be done beautifully in Queensland!

Are you a summer or a winter person?

I am a 100 per cent summer person. No question. Ever. Not a lover of cold.

How do you stay resilient during periods of change, like the year just gone?

Watch action films. Eat red jelly. Go trampolining. And read great writing.

Who were your heroes of 2020?

The heroes of 2020 are 100 per cent our firefighters. Stacey Abrams. Chadwick Boseman. NASA and Nurses.

What’s your secret ambition?

My secret ambition? It’s not so secret. I’m doing it … being artistic director at Queensland Theatre.

 What’s your favourite holiday spot?

Fiji.

What are you hoping for in 2021?

In 2021 I am hoping to stay healthy. That my family stays healthy. That the theatres stay open. That the vaccination rollout goes well and that we find ways to help every country in the world back to health.

What have you been watching on television/streaming services lately?

Sorry I really haven’t had time to watch anything – we have been flat out getting the 2021 season going! Our Town opens on February 4 at which point I am going to collapse on a couch an maybe catch up on Bridgerton! The frocks look awesome.

Any people or businesses to watch in 2021?

Who to watch? My brother runs a beautiful pilates studio in Noosa and last year was really tough for every small business owner so I am super conscious of supporting small businesses everywhere so they can get back on their feet. Every cup of coffee helps the local café owners! On the global entertainment scale, I am always interested in what Shonda Rhimes, Margot Robbie and Nicole Kidman do next. Locally I can’t wait to see Metro Arts unfold into the community in their new West End theatre, and I always find inspiration in the creations of the Circa artists.
