Rise and shine with coffee and baked goods from Awaken Cafe in Coolangatta

If, like us, you firmly believe that the morning doesn’t truly begin until after coffee, pull up a seat at Awaken Cafe, which has sprung to life at the base of Awaken Residences in Coolangatta.

The quaint coffee nook is the latest culinary offering from Gambaro Group, joining a sibling spot upstairs called Pipi’s, as well as a swag of Brisbane institutions including Gambaro Seafood Restaurant, Gambaro Hotel, the Black Hide Steakhouses and Persone. Here’s what you need to know …

Be lured by the irresistible aroma of Merlo Coffee and freshly baked pastries and you’ll discover Awaken Cafe. Taking prime position atop Point Danger overlooking Rainbow Bay, Snapper Rocks and Duranbah Beach, the venue has transformed the former Cafe DBar into a chic 40-seater imbued with Coolangatta’s laid-back vibe.

A tribute to the classic cafes that have dotted the Queensland coastline for years, Awaken boasts a strong connection to the beach and lifestyle through its light airy palette and coastal furnishings. A collaboration between BYculprit. x S.SHYNE, Awaken is indeed striking, with a floor-to-ceiling bread display and a tiled counter that is reminiscent of the textured pathway that leads you down to the ocean.

Eventually, Awaken Cafe will serve breakfast, lunch and baked goods (from croissants and pastries to doughnuts), alongside freshly baked bread. We’re told the full menu will feature blueberry pancakes, nourishing green bowls, classic eggs on toast, mouth-watering breakfast rolls, alongside an array of freshly baked pastries, of course.

The opening line-up offers a concise selection of freshly brewed Merlo Coffee, juices and smoothies alongside freshly made sandwiches, salads, daily baked pies and pastries, breakfast rolls and acai bowls.
