Powerhouse powers up with Pleasuredome, night market and mirror maze

This year is packed to the rafters with truly exciting entertainment happenings, and now we have a couple of more to add to the mix. Brisbane Powerhouse has announced that four major outdoor activations will be staged at the New Farm precinct, with the colourful calendar lined with outdoor cinemas, night markets, mirror mazes and even a Pleasuredome from August.

Brisbane Powerhouse will come alive with colour, creativity, culture and culinary wonders later this year as part of its new outdoor events program. Opening on August 12 and sticking around until October 3 is installation artist Keith Courtney’s mesmerising mirror maze Kaleidoscope, an immersive artwork of glass, steel, mirrors and moving prisms that visitors can traverse through on Brisbane Powerhouse’s Performance Lawn. Keith is famous for being one of the masterminds behind acclaimed installation pieces House of Mirrors and 1000 Doors, as well as The Crosses, a series of inverted crucifixes perched across the Hobart waterfront for MONA’s 2018 Dark Mofo.

Next up in the roster of spellbinding showcases is Pleasuredome, which will be taking over the Performance Lawn from October. This semi-permanent performance venue is made up of Nordic-style tents, features full-service bars and is set to host music, comedy, circus, theatre, dance and cabaret performances. Plus, when it’s not busy with planned events, it will be free for the public to relax within.

Film fanatics can get their fix under the stars at Brisbane Powerhouse’s new outdoor cinema, which is set to start screening movies in spring. The year-round cinema will feature a curated selection of blockbusters, arthouse screenings, film festivals and even live concerts, which guests can enjoy in plush seats with a champagne in hand.

The new year will bring even more fantastic celebrations, with the Hap Wah Night Market bound to transform Brisbane Powerhouse’s forecourt and surrounding parks into the ultimate destination for foodies. This jam-packed, month-long market will feature flavoursome fare, art, film and performances that can’t be missed!
