Appointments: Suncorp promotes Rush to bank chief

Suncorp gets a new banking chief, TEQ adds a marketing guru and Queensland’s new chief scientists starts in her new role in this week’s appointments.

Suncorp promotes Rush

Suncorp has appointed Bruce Rush as the chief executive of Suncorp Bank.

Rush’s appoint follows the recent resignation of Clive van Horen.

He was previously acting CEO and had been executive general manager of home lending.

TEQ hires McConnie

Tourism and Events Queensland has appointed Kim McConnie as group executive for marketing.

McConnie previously worked for Pepsi Sports Sponsorship, a division of Pepsico, and oversaw the Super Bowl half time show from 2014 to 2017.

On returning to Australia she worked as general manager for the Big Bash Leagues. Most recently she worked as the director of marketing for Kayo Sports.

Wilson starts as chief scientist

Professor Kerrie Wilson has started her role Queensland’s chief scientist.

She has been Pro Vice Chancellor at QUT and executive director of the QUT Institute for Future Environments.

She is also regarded as a leading researcher into science, strategy and policy of conservation.

Keay moves into consulting

Sue Keay has joined Future Work Group and partner and director after careers with Oz Minerals and BHP.

She was the robotics technology lead for BHP and is on the board of Robotics Australia as chair.

Her new role with FWG would be in helping steer business to develop strategies for robotics, automation and digitalisation.

Laughton to head QSEC

The Queensland Social Enterprise Council has appointed Adele Laughton as chief executive officer.

It said she would bring a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to supporting the social enterprise sector in Queensland.

She has previously worked for the National Farmers’ Federation and held board positions with Friends with Dignity and Ability Agriculture.

Blue adds McCreery

Blue Energy has appointed John McCreery as a non executive director.

McCreery is an engineer and worked in the North Sea and the Middle East with Shell.

Data#3 triggers succession

Laurence Baynham has resigned from Brisbane tech company Data#3 after a career of almost 30 years.

He will be succeeded on March 1 by Brad Colledge.

Translink picks Singh

Translink has appointed Anjuna Singh as general manager, passenger transport, strategy and technology.

Her early career was in industrial and employment law and she was admitted as a Solicitor of the Queensland Supreme Court in 2001.

She consequently moved to commercial roles within Macquarie Bank and QIC, before joining Translink as Legal Counsel in 2010.

Destiny for Harb

Non profit organisation Destiny Rescue has appointed Lydia Harb to its board.

Grammar appoints rugby director

Brisbane Grammar School has appointed Tom Christie to the role of rugby director starting January 1.

The school said Christie’s vision for the role, his experience as an educator and adminstrator, as well as his passion for the game, would serve its community well.

He is currently the north Queensland regional rugby manager for the QRU and previously worked as a teacher at Grammar between 2017-19.

Marketer leaves Gathar

Catering start-up Gathar has lost its chief marketing officer Ashton Tuckerman.

She said it “the time has come for me to hang up my Gathar apron”.

“From joining the team as Gathar’s third employee to taking the brand global with Curtis Stone’s backing, it’s been one heck of a ride.”

QCOSS picks Churchill

The Queensland Council of Social Services has appointed Andrew Churchill as executive director for communications, engagement and sector development.

He has a decade of experience in senior agency and government positions. He was most recently a senior media adviser with the State Government.
