The airport international passenger numbers were tracking at their highest since the pandemic.

“International passenger movements finished at 93 per cent compared to 2019, a total of 54,000,” the airport said.

“Singapore Airlines traffic remained strong, and Japanese traffic continues to grow month on month.

“Bali was popular with the local market looking for an offshore holiday.”

It said domestic passenger numbers had exceeded 2019 levels, with 372,000 people travelling through the terminal.

“Overall, 426,000 passengers were recorded at Cairns Airport across the international and domestic terminals during September,” the airport said.

“The school holiday period, which was staggered over three weeks due to NSW taking leave one week later, contributed to the strong performance.”
