The State Government said it would provide rebates for about 40,000 Queensland under the $22 million smart energy program.

Energy efficiency is measured by a star rating the Government said switching from a two-star product to a four-star product could save a household hundreds of dollars and reduce CO2 emissions.

Low-income households would be able to claim the most, however all Queenslanders would be able to access the rebate on selected appliances.

To access the full amount, individuals would have to beet the low income tax offset threshold defined by the ATO.

The biggest rebate of $1000 would be for low income households buying a hot water system, but rebates of several hundred dollars applied to washing machines, dishwashers, dryers, refrigerators and air conditioners.
