The company also lost Mathew Latimore, who is also a shareholder and head of M Resources, which markets BCC’s coal. He left to pursue other business activities while Redelinghuys, who was an executive director, resigned for personal reasons.

Redelinghuys said that with the handover to a new chief executive it was the right time to step aside and move on to other challenges.

The company’s executive chair Nick Jorss thanked Redelinghuys.

“While disappointed with Herhard’s decision, personally and on behalf of the board we would like to express our gratitude to Gerhard as founder of this business and for his efforts to steer the company to this point,” Jorss said.

No replacement has been named.
