Executive appointments: Frazer’s new advisory role

Ian Frazer gets a new advisory role, Gadens picks seven more partners, RFG appoints a new CEO and more in this week’s executive and board appointments.

Frazer named as state adviser

The State Government has made Professor Ian Frazer its Biomedical Adviser and chair of the Translational Science Hub’s statement of co-operation steering committee.

Frazer is globally recognised for his role in developing the HPV cervical cancer vaccine.

Gadens promotes seven

National law firm Gadens has named seven new partners which has also meant that women now make up 40 per cent of its leadership ranks. Gadens has now appointed nine new partners across the country since the start of the year.

Among the seven were Brisbane-based Andrew Mackenzie, Daniel Maroske and Lara Cresser.

RFG switches leader

Retail Food Group has appointed Matthew Marshall as its chief executive.

Marshall was previously the head of retail for RFG.

The company said Peter George would continue as executive chair for another two years to focus on specific growth projects and to support Marshall.

Gold picks COO

Brisbane-based Gold Hydrogen has appointed Dr Josh Whitcombe as its chief operating officer.

He was previously COO with WestSide Corporation and Blue Energy and started his career with Shell.

He will start with Gold on July 1.

New VC for Sunny Coast uni

The University of the Sunshine Coast has welcomed its new Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic, Professor Michael Wilmore.

USC said Professor Wilmore was an experienced academic leader, with a background in the humanities and social sciences, who has held senior academic roles at universities in Australia and the UK – most recently as the Interim Deputy Vice-Chancellor (DVC) of UNE.

His leadership experience encompasses a wide range of initiatives, including projects with significant impacts on university culture, external partnerships, business improvement processes, and investments in built and digital environments.

Walker takes QHealth role

Queensland Health has appointed Tracey Walker as executive director of strategic communications.

Walker previously worked for Redlands Council as well as the other state departments.

State Development picks McDougall

The Department of State Development has appointed Fiona McDougall as general counsel.

She has 25 years of experience in major projects and infrastructure development.

McDougall previously worked for eight years at Ventia and Thiess.

M picks up development manager

M Resources has appointed Andrew Kazakoff as general manager of business development in its Brisbane office.

He has previously worked for Anglo American, Pacific Turbine Group, MPC Kinetic and EY.

He also worked as an investment banker with Citi Bank, Deutsche and Credit Suisse.

Projects manager heads to committee

The Committee for Brisbane has welcomed projects manager Olivia Spadina to the team.

She will be primarily responsible for planning and overseeing projects (people, policy and research), from the initial ideation through to completion as well as the organisation and management of four new sub-committees.
In her role, Olivia will assist with the coordination and delivery of Committee for Brisbane projects, and will work closely with members and stakeholders to actively engage them in numerous Committee activities.

Screen Qld picks content chief

Screen Queensland is pleased to announce our new Head of Content, Tanya Ellen.

SQ said Ellen’s career had encompassed the creative and commercial aspects of the screen sector through her time as a creative producer—for which she was considered One to Watch by Screen Producers Australia—and practising lawyer advising high-stakes Australian and international productions.

She starts on July 3 and would focus on leading production and funding programs to increase the volume and diversity of the projects and businesses SQ supports.

Searle gets into Shape

Shape Consulting has appointed Erin Searle as its leadership and management consultant.

She was previously a strengths development coach and managing director of WhaiFlow. She also worked at Logan City Council and a senior community and stakeholder engagement adviser.
