The company, which owns the Sydney casino, The Star, as well as the Treasury and Gold Coast casinos, has faced a year of scandal involving revelations out of two inquiries.

Those revelations which included money laundering and allowing gamblers banned from Sydney to continue gambling on the Gold Coast, led to fines in NSW and Queensland of $100 million.

Attorney-General Shannon Fentiman said the charges related to Section 66 of the Act which prohibited the purchase of gambling chips with a credit card.

The offences occurred between June 2, 2017, and December 29, 2018, and between March 23, 2022, and April 2, 2022.

Sentencing is set down for June 2, 2023.

Star is also facing a regulatory backlash in NSW after its Government floated the possibility of an increase in taxes on pokies.

The company’s board and senior management have also been turned over following the revelations.
