Executive and board appointments: Star gets Lahey replacement

Foster joins Star Entertainment

Casino operator Star Entertainment said it had received regulatory approval for David Foster to join its board replacing Katie Lahey.

The appointment was first announced in August.

Chairman Ben Heap, who will also stand down when a replacement is found, said Lahey had made a significant contribution to Star over her nine years with the company.

Superloop loses director

Internet company Superloop said Stephanie Lai would retire earlier than expected to concentrate on other business interests.

Her resignation from the board would take effect in March.

The company said it was well advanced in finding a replacement.

Tourism’s new DG

Andrew Hopper has been appointed as the state’s Director-General of the Department of Tourism, Innovation and Sport following a trans-Tasman recruitment campaign.

Hopper has been acting in the position and was previously the department’s Deputy Director-General.

He previously spent time in executive roles in the Northern Territory, most recently as the deputy chief executive of the Department of Industry, Tourism and Trade and leading the Tourism NT (including StudyNT), Screen Territory and Liquor, Gaming and Racing teams.

Critical Minerals adds two

The Critical Minerals Group has appointed Steven Kovac and Stuart McClure to its board.

Kovac is currently chief executive of Idemitsu Australia, which is a substantial shareholder in Critical Minerals.

McClure has 16 years of finance and corporate advisory experience which Critical Minerals said would be invaluable.

Earlier this month, the company’s chief financial officer Adam Purss resigned.

New blood for GasFields

An indigenous elder and traditional owner from the Nywaigi and Mamu people, John Anderson, has been appointed chair of the GasFields Commission.

The commission is a State Government appointed body which acts between gas companies, landowners and the community.

The State Government said Anderson was a First Peoples’ engagement specialist with extensive governance experience.

Head of Australian Sugar Milling Council Rachele Sheard and Dalby-based Jane Walker were also appointed as commissioners.

Lamb to lead small business

Former National Retail Association chief executive Dominique Lamb has been appointed as Queensland’s Small Business Commissioner.

Lamb was most recently working for Airservices Australia.

She replaces Maree Adshead.

EQ changes secretary

Tungsten company EQ Resources revealed that joint company secretary Vanni de Oliveira had resigned from the company after two years.

Melanie Leydin would continue in her role as company secretary and would be the person responsible with communicating with the ASX.

GC ads two more to board

Destination Gold Coast has appointed Rebecca Frizelle and Queensland Airports chief executive Amelia Evans to its board.

Frizelle is co-owner of the Gold Coast Titans NRL team and is on the 2032 Olympic organising committee.

Frizelle replaces Nick Scott, who stepped down last month.

Edwards joins BNE committee

Archipelego founding director Peter Edwards has joined the management committee of the Committee for Brisbane.

The committee said Edwards would provide leadership, design expertise and strategic thinking.

RTI Commissioner appointed

Attorney General Shannon Fentiman has appointed Stephanie Winson as Queensland’s right to information commissioner.

Winson was previously assistant ombudsman in New Zealand. She was also a senior solicitor at the New Zealand Civil Aviation Authority.

Grazier takes on beef role

Fourth-generation grazier and MLA red meat ambassador Bron Christensen has been appointed to the secretariat of the North Australia Beef Research Council.

Christensen, from Tatiara, near Theodore, will take over the day-to-day running of the organisation from Janine King.

Zeotech picks CEO

Mineral technology company Zeotech has appointed Alister Morrison as chief executive, effective on March 13, next year.

Morrison had previously spent five years at the University of Queensland’s commercialisation arm UniQuest as a senior director and head of physical sciences.

While there he led the initial commercialisation of Zeotech’s mineral processing innovations.

Bradley resigns

Former Queensland under treasurer Gerard Bradley will not seek re-election to the board of Pinnacle Investment Management.

Bradley is among 11 former and current directors and executives of Star Entertainment who are being sued by ASIC in relation to evidence given in the Bell and Gotterson inquiries.

Pickering for planning

Tess Pickering has been named as deputy director general of planning and state planner within the Department of State Development.

Pickering has previously worked in Queensland including on the Planning Act 2016 and the South East Regional Plan 2017 as well as Victoria’s Precinct Structure Planning Guidelines.

She takes over from Christopher Aston who had been acting in the role.

Westpac needs a chair

Westpac chair John McFarlane has told investors he would be retiring from the board next year.

He said he would step down at the end of the 2023 annual general meeting.

He said he had delivered on his commitment made in 2020 to deliver a leaner, more agile and better performing company.

Sayona Quebec gets a new boss

Lithium company Sayona Mining has appointed Guy Belleau as chief executive of its Quebec subsidiary Sayona Inc.

He takes over from Guy Laliberte who now becomes a strategic adviser to chief executive Brett Lynch.
