Former Labor MP Terri Butler has joined Griffith's climate iniative

Butler lines up for Griffith

Former Federal MP for Griffith Terri Butler has joined Griffith University’s Climate Ready Initiative’s board.

Butler, who lost her seat to the Greens at the most recent election, said the CRI was doing crucial work.

CRI projects include working with governments to advance climate risk readiness.

Former Queensland Premier Anna Bligh was recently named as the inaugural national ambassador for Griffith University’s Institute for Glycomics and Rotary’s malaria vaccine project.

And the University’s Chancellor is former Treasurer Andrew Fraser.

QTIC adds Smith

The Queensland Tourism Industry Council has added Alison Smith to its board.

Smith currently heads up the Local Government Association of Queensland.

She has also worked for Star Group and the State Government.

Flight Centre adds to exec team

Flight Centre has brought back Sue Graham as the global leader of product for its independent brands.

Graham has had previous roles at Helloworld, CT Partners, Travelocity, CiEvents and Jetset Travelworld.

Vanessa Whittaker has also been appointed as global supply leader after joining the company in July.

Ainsworth exec heads to Terracom

Ainsworth chief financial officer and company secretary Mark Ludski will join the board of coal miner Terracom.

Ludski will head the audit committee.

He has 30 years’ experience as a chartered accountant and has been with Ainsworth for 22 years.

Bolinger steps in at GC

Karen Bolinger has started as an interim chief executive at Destination Gold Coast.

The position was vacated when Patricia O’Callaghan was appointed to head Tourism and Events Queensland.

It is a return for Bolinger, who previously worked at the organisation in the same role in 2021. She has been working as a consultant.

Michelmore heads to MCA

The Minerals Council of Australia has elected Andrew Michelmore as its new chair.

He will replace Helen Coonan in the role.

It’s Michelmore’s second term in the job having served as chair between 2013 and 2016.

Two new members have also been invited to the board: BHP Minerals Australia president Geraldine Slattery and Newmont’s regional vice president Mia Gous.

They will replace Edgar Basto and Alex Bates.

Power to Huang

Sarah Huang has been appointed to the Australian Power Institute board.

Huang is general manager of design solutions at Powerlink.

The new position is a voluntary one. She took over the role from Powerlink’s Rakesh Solanki.

ANZ adds Morgan

ANZ announced Clare Morgan had been appointed group executive Australia – commercial, reporting to CEO Shayne Elliott.

As a member of ANZ’s executive committee, Morgan would be responsible for ANZ’s commercial business in Australia where she would lead a team serving customers ranging from sole proprietors through to emerging corporates as well as private banking.

Morgan previously worked at Commonwealth Bank of Australia as executive general manager of small business banking.

Orica looks for two directors

Orica is searching for two new board members after the resignations of Maxine Brenner and Boon Swan Foo.

Chairman Malcolm Broomhead said the company was well advanced in its board succession processes and expected to announce new appointments next week.

AustChina appoints Dick

Mining company AustChina has appointed James Dick as a director.

It said Dick has a background in institutional investment through his roles with QIC over 12 years.

He is also an investor and company secretary of Utilitas.

Brisbane group adds Patching

The Committee for Brisbane has appointed Dr Alan Patching to its management committee.

Patching was the founding director of RCP Australia and was the project director for the design and construction of the Sydney Olympic Stadium.

ABC presenter heads to business

ABC TV finance presenter Elysse Morgan will join Stafford Partners to lead its business development agenda in Australia.

Morgan will work with superannuation funds to help them deliver their net zero aspirations.

Morgan had been working in journalism for 15 years.
