The site, adjacent to the Beerburrum State Forest at Bracalba, would be able to service demand from the Sunshine Coast to the Gold Coast with initial production of 500kgs a day and scaling up to 2500kg a day, starting in 2024.

The process would use woody biomass that would otherwise end up in landfill and the input would come from nearby logging waste.

The project would be a joint venture between with CAC-H2 and Pure Hydrogen expects its share of the total costs would be about $5 million.

Pure Hydrogen managing director Scott Brown said the site was ideal and fitted in with the strategy of establish east coast hydrogen hubs.

The company paid $125,000 for the site option and holds the right to transfer a further $1.875 million to complete the purchase.

Pure Hydrogen would fund the storage and load-out for hydrogen production separately.
