Ransley emerges at Mayur: Exec and board appointments

Former Terracom chair Craig Ransley has found a new company, Screen Queensland gets a new CEO, the Government makes a raft of appointments and Griffith University gets a deputy chancellor and more

Ransley shifts focus to Mayur

Craig Ransley, who founded Terracom and struck the deal of the year when it bought the Blair Athol thermal coal mine for $1 from Rio Tinto, has emerged at the little-known junior miner Mayur Resources.

Ransley walked away from Terracom in July with no reason given other than he was pursuing other challenges, but the company has been booming since Russia upended the energy market with its invasion of Ukraine.

Ransley’s company Barra Resources has bought a $500,000 stake in Mayur, but he will also become executive chair and receive a sign-on bonus of 10 million shares as well as 10 million unlisted share performance-based options.

Barra will also get exclusive capital raising services to Mayur for 30 months during which the company plans two tranches of project level capital funding for its key projects. The company has several projects on its books in PNG.

Current chair Charles Frear will move to a non-executive director role.

Gold Coast tourism boss to head TEQ

After nine years at the helm of Tourism and Events Queensland, Leanne Coddington has been replaced by Patricia O’Callaghan.

O’Callaghan is currently the chief executive of Destination Gold Coast and was previously in charge of business group Townsville Enterprise.

Coddington said leading the organisation had been a privilege.

Her departure follows that of Daniel Gschwind from the industry group Queensland Tourism Industry Council earlier this year after two decades in the role. He was replaced by Brett Fraser.

TEQ chair Brett Godfrey said O’Callaghan would be tasked with guiding TEQ and the wide Queensland tourism industry through the post-Covid era.

O’Callaghan said she was excited to get started. She begins in the role in January.

Screen Qld hires Gibson

Screen Queensland has appointed Courtney Gibson chief executive officer.

Gibson has previously been the CEO of two state screen agencies and held leadership roles with Australian broadcasters and production companies.

Screen Queensland chair, Roslyn Atkinson said she was pleased to welcome such an accomplished screen executive to lead the organisation through its next chapter of growth across film and series production, games development and studio expansion.

“The board looks forward to seeing the state’s thriving screen industry benefit from Ms Gibson’s leadership and guidance, further strengthening Queensland’s fine reputation as a destination of choice for the world’s leading filmmakers and producers.

Gibson has held roles including executive head of content creation and head of arts, entertainment and comedy at ABC TV. She was programming production executive at Nine, commissioning editor of documentary at SBS, director of programs at Endemol Australia and managing director of Jungle Entertainment, as well as serving as CEO of Screen NSW and the South Australian Film Corporation.

QEM adds Wall

QEM has appointed Tim Wall to the company’s board as a non-executive director.

The company said Wall had vast experience across the oil and gas sector and in the renewable energy space, which aligned perfectly with the multi-commodity nature of QEM’s Julia Creek project.

QEM Julia Creek project holds vanadium, used in grid-scale batteries, as well as oil shale.

Steele gets QHA post

The Queensland Hotels Association has appointed Damian Steele as its deputy chief executive.

Steele had previously been the QHA industry and engagement officer and before that had worked at Currumbin RSL as gaming and operations manager.

Bernie Hogan is the QHA chief executive.

Sharpe gets Terracom job

David Sharpe has been appointed as principal mining engineer at Queensland based Terracom.

Sharpe was previously employed with Marshall Mining and Engineering and was a senior mining engineer at Sojitz and Whitehaven.

Cridland moves into Resources role

Mark Cridland will head the Department of Resources after being appointed director general.

He has more than 30 years’ experience and was recommended by an independent panel.

Cridland was a director in KPMG’s transport and infrastructure sector for five years.

He is a board member of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority and a former member of the Queensland Investment Panel, the Australia New Zealand Counter Terrorism Committee and the Economic Development Board of Queensland.

Drummond gets Health role

Sean Drummond has been had his role as acting director general of Queensland Health made permanent.

He was also previously the chief operating officer of the department and held the role of Metro North chief executive.

He was also lead partner for health and hospital transformation with Deloitte.

Zeljko moves to Energy Qld

Former G8 executive and Powerlink director Sarah Zeljko has been appointed chair of Energy Queensland.

Apart from her board seat at Powerlink, Zeljko was also held roles with Energy Super, Millovate, Stockyard Beef, Logicamms and Unitywater.

Energy Minister Mick de Brenni said Zeljko would provide leadership during a critical time for the sector.

JML picks McCarthy

Shaun McCarthy has been picked up by JML Mining Solutions as its new chief operating officer.

McCarthy was previously the chief executive of Multicom which is developing the vanadium project in north west Queensland.

Prior to that he was construction manager with QCoal.

Coleman leaves Springfield

Angie Coleman has revealed she would be leaving her role as general counsel and company secretary for the Springfield City Group.

She had been with the company for four years.

Griffith deputy chancellor starts

Griffith University’s new Deputy Chancellor Rebecca Frizelle has started.

Frizelle has been a member of University Council since January 2021 and has also been the chief operating officer of Frizelle Prestige and a key shareholder in Frizelle Sunshine Automotive and Peter Warren Automotive.

In 2014 she was appointed to the board of the Gold Coast Titans and became the first female chair in the NRL.

In 2020, Ms Frizelle was awarded an Order of Australia as recognition for her contributions to the motor industry and Rugby League.
