McGrady, who has been involved in the mining sector in one form or another for decades, would become a non-executive director with Hawsons from next week.

The Mount Isa-based McGrady, who also served as the city’s mayor for four years, was Mines and Energy Minister between 1998 and 2001.

Hawsons chair Dave Woodall said the experience McGrady would bring to the company stemmed from the years he presided over the developments in the Mount Isa-Carpentaria Minerals Province, including the Century zinc mine.

Woodall said McGrady also brought experience in developing relationships with indigenous groups.

McGrady would replace a retiring Jon Parker on the board.
