The resignation is another in a series of executive and board departures following the damning claims raised in the Bell Inquiry in NSW and the Gotterson inquiry in Queensland.

His departure date was not released but Star’s incoming chief executive Robbie Cooke is not expected to start until later this year after serving out his notice with Tyro.

Hogg had been working on an interim basis following the resignation earlier this year of Matt Bekier.

Star said Hogg’s resignation had been accepted by the board, but he would continue to work with the group in transition.

However, Heap would assume the role of executive chairman immediately, but would not be taking any increased pay while working in the role.

Hogg appeared before the Gotterson inquiry to give evidence about Star’s Queensland operations.

Apart from Bekier, Star has also lost its chairman John O’Neil and director Sally Pitkin. Fellow director Gerard Bradley has said he intended to resign.

Chief financial officer Harry Theodore also resigned along with chief casino officer Greg Hawkins and chief legal and risk officer Paula Martin.

Star is facing the prospect of heavy fines or potentially losing its licence to operate the Sydney casino while in Queensland, the Government recently introduced legislative amendments to allow it to fine casino operators for up to $50 million for breaches of the Act.
