The company, which listed on the US Nasdaq exchange in January, is benefitting from the shift in US politics and the support from the Democrats for electric vehicles.

US president Joe Biden this week signed the Inflation Reduction Act, which provided almost $US370 billion in climate change investments.

Tritium said production from the Tennessee facility is expected to start next year.

Tritium said its PKM150 fast charger was expected to meet the standards of the Federal Highway Administration Buy America Act standards by the first quarter of next year and make it a contender for US Government program funding.

The PKM150 top-of-the-line charger was a significant improvement in technology for Tritium, chief executive Jane Hunter said.

She said the factory opening was an important milestone for Tritium.

“As many as 35 million electric vehicles are expected to be in use by 2030 and those vehicles will require more powerful and convenient charging infrastructure,” Hunter said.

“It’s crucial that America’s charging infrastructure is built right here in the US. Americans will rely on it to get to work, to school, to doctor’s appointments and more.

“It needs to be reliable and it needs to be able to grow to meet their needs.”

She said the manufacturing of the charging units in America reduced supply chain delays and helped build the manufacturing system that would employ more Americans.
