It found the number of business travellers choosing to fly business class had already exceeded the 2019 level.

“Corporate travellers are wasting no time in filling premium cabins and that’s leading to a shortage if business class seats on routes out of Australia,” Flight Centre Corporate managing director Melissa Elf said.

The company said there was a 3 per cent increase in the number of business travellers booking premium corporate fares internationally.

More than a third of all corporate international flights were premium class.

Many companies have a policy of paying for business or first class for long duration flights and some carriers were booked solid for premium seats for several months.

Elf said the increase was impacted by a lower number of overall flights compared with pre-pandemic levels.

Singapore and London were the leading destination for corporate travellers.

“For Australians, travelling to Singapore has been the most viable and most productive for travel internationally to take place, with Singapore being a critical hub for the rest of the world.”
