Fraser will replace the retiring Daniel Gschwind as the head of Queensland Tourism Industry Council.

Gschwind had spent about 20 years in the job, covering a tumultuous period for the sector which had been battered by the global shutdown of travel during the pandemic. He will step down in late April.

About $20 billion had been spent by the Federal Government on the sector since 2020.

Fraser will face the huge task of bringing confidence back to the market with the public still wary of travel and the prospect of being caught up in potential shutdowns or travel restrictions.

However, a report from ANZ today said that the rising inflation was not impacting on peoples’ travel plans.

QTIC said Fraser was an experienced senior executive with more than 25 years of global experience across various industries, including tourism. He left the Brisbane Economic Development Agency in July last year after five years.

“As we enter this new era, QTIC remains committed to advocating for the interests of our operators and revitalising our industry,” QTIC said.

“Over the next few weeks, Daniel Gschwind will introduce Brett to industry and operators across the state, affirming our commitment to our members and the interests of Queensland’s tourism industry.”
