Bookings from interstate were up 115 per cent with a rush from Melbourne (up 219 per cent).

International tourists have started to show interest in returning and Tangalooma said inquiries to its website from overseas travellers had doubled and transactions were up 150 per cent.

The biggest interest was coming from the UK, USA and Singapore.

Resort director David James said locals had supported Tangalooma over the past two years and first time visitors had grown from 52 per cent to 63 per cent in the period. All were from within Queensland.

He said he was “quietly optimistic” and the future, but it may take months or even years for the industry to entice travellers back.
