The cashback will be reduced to $500 for existing customers.

Suncorp said it was a first for the market and was initiated because feedback from customers told the bank that two out of three customers saw renewable energy and addressing climate change as significant issues.

The cashback will be for customers who sign up for a new fixed or variable home loan and have solar power either installed or will have one installed by December 31. It excludes refinancing of loans.

Suncorp Bank chief executive Clive van Horen said the bank was delivering banking that was good for them and good for the world.
